Rooster Weather Vane
A rooster weather vane theme was included in some of the earliest designs and has remained a popular favorite with modern day designers. The rooster weather vane was a result of the decree of a ninth century pope, who declared that all churches and spires in Europe should feature a cock crowing at the peak. This was a reminder to the faithful that Jesus reminded Peter that he would deny Him three times before the cock crowed twice. You can find a rooster weather vane in almost every size and finish imaginable.
Some common rooster weather vane designs prepared by Weathervanes of Copper include:
A large traditional rooster weather vane in dark copper has a thick body and drooping tail and appears to be a tough critter to cross in the barnyard.
Another rooster weather vane is bright copper. The cock is perched on an arrow with detailed fletching. This rooster is scrawny, yet has his head up and mouth open as if he is singing to all within earshot. His chest is puffed out and his whole being appears to be focused on announcing his importance to the world. His tail feathers are displayed proudly.
A walking rooster weather vane is a dark copper color. It stands on an arrow with detailed fletching. This rooster appears more sedate, He’s watchful, but not in-your-face. The detailing on the bird is exquisite. The feathers on the chest, head and tail are his best feature. The tail is displayed, yet not flaunted. This bird is one of the larger ones, measuring 27” by 25”.
Similar to the walking rooster weather vane above is another walking rooster in dark copper. This bird is strutting rather than walking. His tail is particularly detailed as is the chest. He appears to be preparing to crow and announce morning to his world. The size on this rooster is 25” by 21”.
One rooster weather vane which is more stylized and has much less detail than some of the others is very dark copper in color. The feathers are suggested, rather than detailed. The rooster is three dimensional rather than a silhouette, but is not full-bodied. The upright rod on this rooster weather vane passes through the body of the rooster and this rooster’s feet are not shown.
The rooster weather vane, as with all available through Weathervanes of Copper, is hand-crafted, so each weathervane is slightly different. No two are ever exactly the same.
